• How did you get into the field of Data Privacy?

My career in Data Privacy started immediately after my management degree when I joined a multi-national IT firm. I was fortunate to be a part of the Privacy consulting and advisory team which established the data privacy line of business. My interest in the data privacy field increased since then.

• What is the importance of certifications for anyone in the field of privacy?

Certifying yourself in the privacy field carries the same weightage as in any other field. For example, cloud experts appear for Azure or AWS certifications. CIPP/CIPM certifications demonstrate the skills a person possesses w.r.t privacy program management and regulatory knowledge. A few advantages of these certifications are: First, it acts as a differentiation for a candidate who is applying for a job. Second, it adds to the credibility of the employees of an organization to demonstrate privacy knowledge. Third, it helps in knowledge sharing through collaboration with like-minded people.

• How did Tsaaro Academy help you in your CIPPe and CIPM Journey?

I enrolled with Tsaaro Academy for both my certifications as they provide the required guidance to not only pass the exam but also to understand the practical implementation of the study material. Since the faculty is experienced in the privacy domain, it becomes easier to collaborate, debate, and understand the core privacy practices which helps in understanding the concepts.

• How is CIPPe different from CIPM In terms of who can take them and Career opportunities?

CIPP/E focuses primarily on the European privacy regulation and takes essence from GDPR. The exam focuses on regulatory compliance and key privacy concepts such as conducting DPIAs, establishing RoPAs, reporting breaches, etc.

Whereas CIPM focuses on establishing a Privacy Program within an organization. What are the steps involved in establishing a privacy program, who should be involved in such a program, and how to establish a multi-regulatory privacy regime for an organization is a few questions CIPM helps to answer.

I believe both the exams have their benefits, and I recommend pursuing both certifications. However, if you had to choose one, CIPM is best suited for stakeholders within an organization who drive the privacy program. CIPM is also geo-agnostic and thus can be applied to comply with any privacy regulation. For anyone who wishes to work on the European privacy law landscape, CIPP/E is the way to go forward.

6. Would you recommend Tsaaro Academy?

I will definitely recommend pursuing training through Tsaaro as the examples of scenarios discussed help in understanding the data privacy concepts well. The training material provided along with the live sessions helps in clarifying the doubts and understanding real-world privacy challenges.
